About David
David (he/him) consults on the thoughtful use of audio and video for instruction, emphasizing opportunities to integrate media with instructional design. He produces audio and video in close partnership with instructors from across the college and leads the IDC’s efforts to provide modern recording facilities that support L&S content creators. David is also the producer of the L&S Exchange Podcast, which takes advantage of his spirit of collaboration and vision to create compelling and relevant new work in higher education storytelling and to amplify voices across the college.
David earned his Master of Fine Arts degree from the Integrated Media Arts program at the University of Montana-Missoula and has a wide range of experience creating and exhibiting independent video work. His narrative and documentary films have been screened at U.S. and international film festivals, including our own Wisconsin Film Festival. His most recent documentary, The Round Barns of Vernon County, won the award for Best Documentary at the NextFrame International Film Festival in Philadelphia, PA, and is available across UW-System for individual viewing and classroom screenings. He brings this background of independent “movie-making” to his current position to offer thoughtful advice, technical know-how, and creative solutions to each new project.
When not making YouTube videos, David enjoys building furniture for his two grown daughters and planning camping trips that accommodate his adorable yet stubborn bulldogs. David has recently taken up welding as his latest hobby, which he does poorly, according to the internet.
