Calculate Weighted Final Grades in Canvas

Did you know Canvas can calculate weighted final grades that match the weighted percentages in your syllabus?

  • Display accurate percentage scores within assignment groups – e.g., a weighted score for all homework assignments.
  • Make entering final grades into faculty center simpler.
  • Calculating final grades in Canvas and updating scores regularly is more transparent for students – they can check their progress regularly.

How To

  1. Create one Assignment Group in Canvas for each category of work that counts toward the final grade. See How do I add an assignment group in a course? from the Instructure Community.
  2. Then weight each Assignment Group to match your syllabus. See How do I weight the final course grade based on assignment groups? from the Instructure Community.
